CREATING A MULTIMEDIA PROJECT
Multimedia
Presentation
Guided Notes
PowerPoint Presentation

Purpose

The purpose of this multimedia presentation is for a lesson on the Atom. As the information is being presented the students will complete guided notes as they follow along with this video. This is an assignment that will be completed at home and can be utilized later on as a helpful reference if needed. Given that this is to be completed at home, it helps to identify any misconceptions early on in the lesson when the students are back in class. The presentation and guided notes have been provided by The Morehouse Magic on teachers pay teachers.

Objective 1: Students will be able to identify the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom and ion of main group elements (including isotopes).

Audience

This lesson is intended for a High School Chemistry class for students at Plainfield North High School in Plainfield, Illinois. There are two small group Chemistry classes that consist of 8-13 students all of which have Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) and different learning needs. In the 4th period class there are a total of 8 students, 3 girls and 5 boys and in the 5th period class there is a total of 13 students, 2 girls and 11 boys. The students who are enrolled in this class have different accommodations to meet their educational needs and as their teacher I differentiate my instruction to make sure all students are able to comprehend the material being taught. The multimedia presentation addresses the structure of an atom.

Software Selection

The software that I have chosen to complete this task is called Zoom. I have picked this program because I am very familiar with how it operates and have utilized it many times for my students. It is user friendly and allows me to screen record my presentations so that the student can follow along as we go through the material.

Design Process

My multimedia presentation was created using the following process:

  1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log in to your account.
  2. After you have logged in, you will click the button at the top right corner that says Host a Meeting. A drop down menu will appear and you will select With Video On.
  3. This will then lead you to a tab requesting you to launch your Zoom App.
  4. Once the app is open and your meeting has begun, you will make sure you have all of your presentations and notes up and ready to present.
  5. At the bottom of your Zoom screen you will see a button that says Share Screen. After you click on this button you will select the screen where your presentation is located.
  6. You will then get your presentation ready and on your Zoom screen you will see a button that says More at the top. When you click on this button a drop down menu will appear and you will click on the button that says Record.
  7. This will now record your shared screen with your presentation along with your audio.
  8. When you have finished presenting you will click End at the bottom right corner and it will ask if you are down recording. Click Yes and your recording will be saved to your Zoom Account.
  9. Once you are finished you will need to log into your Zoom account using your web browser.
  10. Click on the tab that says recordings, find today's date and click the share button. This will give you a sharable link that can be posted to any website for students to access.

Conceptual Framework

Picture
Above is the storyboard/ flowchart I created to prepare for this multimedia presentation. Although my storyboard doesn't have digital pictures it helped to pinpoint the main steps I needed to cover while preparing, presenting and recording my presentation. I am very familiar with the material that I am teaching, as I have been doing it for 3 years now. Each year I adapt and change things to meet my students' needs, for this particular group I decided to upload the PowerPoint presentation I go through along with the guided notes to keep the students engaged.
